By Marissa Meyer
A futuristic retelling of Cinderella, where she is a cyborg in a land struck by plague which is also having problems with the Lunar people. And there’s Prince Kai…
Shelve or Display?
Shelve. But the cover is different and not bad, just not amazingly wonderful either. Plus, her cyborg foot doesn’t actually look like that.
I don’t like retellings but this didn’t feel like it at all. The story was interesting, all the plots wove together and there were lots of secrets that gave it twists. Although there was one twist I saw coming from a mile off – it was obvious but if it hadn’t happened, I’d have been very upset. The world felt real and the robots and cyborgs and Lunars seemed normal and realistic.
Reread or Remember?
Reread. According to my sister, if you read it in one session, you’ll get sucked in and it’ll be awesome. Perhaps I’ll try that next time before the sequel comes out. (This is the first of four.) This whole series looks set to be pretty awesome. There’s Cinder (Cinderella), Cress (Rapunzel), Scarlett (Red Riding Hood) and Winter (Snow White). Reading Marissa Meyer’s blog, she seems to have planned everything out and all these characters will be intermingling with their own stories which is an amazing idea and I can’t wait to read them all!
